The Center for Faculty Advancement, Mentoring, and Engagement (FAME) provides comprehensive faculty career development throughout all domains of an academic medical center. We develop faculty to be expert educators, leaders, superlative clinicians, and eminent scholars.
Teaching and Learning
FAME presents a variety of programs that promote educator skill development through reflection, peer observation, large group learning and faculty learning communities. The majority of programs are taught by faculty subject matter experts within The Ohio State University College of Medicine, including Nationwide Children’s Hospital. In addition to programs we produce, we connect educators to a wide variety of local, regional, national and international development opportunities. We promote innovation and the scholarship of medical education to advance the methods and effectiveness of teaching, evaluation, assessment and curricular design.
Leadership
Faculty within the College of Medicine serve as leaders in many different capacities. Whether they maintain a formal leadership role; manage a lab; educate residents, fellows, and students; or participate as an active member of a team, FAME provides support for acquiring critical competencies to excel within these roles. FAME offers a combined approach of one-session programming paired with both the Faculty Leadership Institute (FLI) and the FAME Unites Emerging Leaders (FUEL) cohort programs. These courses aim to improve leadership skills by helping participants to increase self-awareness and emotional intelligence; recognize their strengths, challenges, and values as leaders; develop their ability to initiate and lead change efforts and build high-performing teams; and strengthen their relational skills to generate and effectively communicate mutually beneficial solutions that build consensus and resolve conflict.
Mentoring and Career Advancement
Mentoring is a crucial component to professional wellbeing and success in medicine. With the “M” in FAME standing for mentorship, we’re committed to comprehensive programming on mentorship and coaching. Through educational workshops, departmental outreach, and mentorship matching, FAME is your faculty resource for identifying and creating successful mentoring relationships.
